Career
In addition to archivists in career group 2, first and second entry level (formerly higher and senior civil service) and media and information services specialists (specialising in archives), restorers and restoration assistants work in the workshops. The significant expansion of IT services in archives in the course of digitisation has led to an increase in the number of employees in this occupational field. Today, employees work in information technology at all locations of the Landesarchiv Nordrhein-Westfalen. Finally, the Landesarchiv also offers many employment opportunities for employees in the general internal administration service in the various career groups in the area of cross-sectional tasks in the Central Services Department.
Current vacancies
Training for media and information services specialists specialising in archives
Every three years from 1 August, the Landesarchiv Nordrhein-Westfalen takes on trainees as media and information services specialists specialising in archives.
During the dual training programme, trainees acquire the qualification to work in archives in all sectors as a professionally trained employee.
Dual study programme for archivists
Every two years on 1 September, the Landesarchiv Nordrhein-Westfalen recruits trainee archivists. During the dual study programme, you will acquire knowledge about archival working methods and their historical development, about the handling of different types of information and media in the archives, from the oldest medieval documents to e-mail. At the end of your studies, you will be able to read and identify almost any archival document, no matter who wrote it and how old it is. You will also be able to categorise the contexts of origin and chronological circumstances and assess their significance for future generations.
Traineeship for the higher archive service
Every two years on 1 May, the Landesarchiv Nordrhein-Westfaken recruits trainee state archivists for the preparatory service for career group 2, second entry level in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The training takes place alternately at the Münster or Detmold locations.
Voluntary social year
All archive departments of the Landesarchiv offer places for a Voluntary Social Year (FSJ) in heritage conservation. There is also the opportunity to complete the FSJ in the area of press, communication and public relations.
Information on the FSJ can be obtained from the Rhineland and Westphalia Jugendbauhütte, with which the Landesarchiv cooperates.
Internship
The Landesarchiv also offers free internships for school pupils and students at all its locations, giving career starters the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the tasks and work of an archive and, in particular:
- Pre-study internship for the Diplom-Restaurator (FH)
- Voluntary internship as an orientation for vocational training or for starting a degree course
- Mandatory internship as an intermediate internship
- Internship for school pupils
