School
The Landesarchiv Nordrhein-Westfalen is a living place of history and historical education. There are few places where history becomes as tangible for children and young people as in archives. If you want to search for historical clues and find out what happened in your town or in your family at a certain time, you have to ask questions, follow clues, collect evidence and reconstruct the case you are looking for from individual pieces of the puzzle. This research path leads to the archive.

NRW Research Workshop
Researching history yourself - this is the idea behind the “NRW Research Workshop”. Suitable original sources on selected topics from the Nordrhein-Westfalen core curriculum are made available for download from the Landesarchiv Nordrhein-Westfalen. Pupils can thus go in search of clues on their own. The sources relate to regional history, take up different perspectives, highlight problems and reveal developments. Encountering digitized originals provides practical training in methodological skills for working with sources - just like in a workshop. The series will be continuously expanded.
Geschichtswettbewerb
The Geschichtswettbewerb des Bundespräsidenten and the Hamburg Körber Foundation is the largest historical research competition for young people in Germany. It aims to awaken children's and young people's interest in their own history, promote independence and strengthen their sense of responsibility. The history competition is held every two years on different topics.
The theme of the 29th edition of the Bundespräsidenten's Geschichtswettbewerb is: "So far and no further! Borders in history". Young people should go in search of historical traces and explore the history of borders. Further information on the history competition can be found on the Körber Foundation website.
The Landesarchiv Nordrhein-Westfalen actively supports and accompanies pupils in their participation in the history competition. Teachers are offered appropriate training to prepare them for the competition. Our archive educators will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
